Extension Privacy Policy

Last updated: June 7, 2026

This policy covers the PDF Text Search browser extension published by Sparks Simple. For the privacy policy covering the Sparks Simple website and platform, see sparkssimple.com/privacy.

Short version

The PDF Text Search extension collects no personal data whatsoever. Every PDF you open or URL you paste is processed entirely inside your own browser. Nothing is uploaded, logged, or shared with Sparks Simple or any third party.

1. Summary

Sparks Simple (“we,” “our,” or “us”) built the PDF Text Search browser extension as a free tool. This page informs you of our policy regarding data in the context of the extension. Because the extension operates entirely on your device, our data collection is zero.

2. What We Do Not Collect

The extension does not collect, transmit, or store any of the following:

PDF files or their contentsFiles are read locally and never uploaded to any server.
Search termsThe words you search for remain entirely on your device.
PDF URLsURLs you paste into the extension are used only to fetch the file in your browser.
Browsing history or activityThe extension does not monitor which websites you visit.
Personal informationNo name, email address, IP address, or any other identifier is collected.
Analytics or telemetryNo usage data, crash reports, or interaction events are sent anywhere.

3. Local Processing

When you upload a PDF or paste a URL, the file is fetched and processed using PDF.js — an open-source PDF rendering library that runs entirely in your browser. Text extraction, search, and page rendering all happen locally on your device.

When you click a search result to open the viewer, the PDF data is passed between the extension popup and the viewer tab using your browser's built-in IndexedDB storage. This is a local mechanism — no data leaves your device at any point.

The extension does not include tracking pixels, beacons, or any form of analytics SDK.

4. Browser Permissions

The extension requests the following browser permissions, and only for the purposes described:

Access to all URLs

Required so you can paste any PDF link and have the extension fetch the file on your behalf. The extension never reads or monitors URLs you visit — it only fetches a URL you explicitly provide.

Tabs

Required to open the built-in PDF viewer in a new tab when you click a search result.

5. Third-Party Code

The extension bundles one third-party library:

PDF.js by Mozilla

An open-source PDF rendering library licensed under the Apache 2.0 license. It runs entirely locally and makes no network requests of its own. Source: github.com/mozilla/pdf.js

No analytics libraries, advertising SDKs, or tracking tools are included.

6. Children's Privacy

The extension does not collect any data from anyone, including children under the age of 13. It is safe to use regardless of age from a data-collection standpoint.

7. Changes to This Policy

If we ever change this policy in a way that involves collecting data (which we have no current plans to do), we will update the “Last updated” date at the top of this page and post a notice on the extension store listing before the change takes effect.
